Both lòng lang and dạ sói mean “wolf’s heart”, or more literally, “wolf’s intestines, wolf’s stomach”, and they are combined into a reduplication for emphasis, which is found in some Vietnamese fossil compounds (see also rừng rú, xe cộ, etc.).
