Etymology edit

From Old Swedish limlæstadher, equivalent to lem (limb) +‎ lästa (damage). Related to Danish lemlæste and Old Norse lima lǫstr.

  1. to dismember (to remove limbs)
  2. to maim (to cause permanent loss of a part of the body)
