From Dutch lichaam (body), from Middle Dutch lichame, from Old Dutch lichamo, from Frankish *likhamo, from Proto-Germanic *līkahamô (body, bodily frame, corpse). Equivalent to a compound of lyk (body, corpse) +‎ haam (hull).
