1. (medicine, pathology) An excess of lipids or lipoproteins in the blood.
   • 1917, Elliott Proctor Joslin, The Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus, Lea & Febiger, page 102:

     The absence of lipemia in the 28 cases undergoing treatment, although many of them were severe, is a striking fact, and probably to be accounted for by the partial or complete fasting.

   • 1947, Oscar Riddle, Studies on Carbohydrate and Fat Metabolism, Carnegie Institution of Washington, page 111:

     The studies cited above do not permit a decision as to whether the observed lipemias represent a direct action of estrogen or whether the effect is mediated through another organ.
