From Ancient Greek γλῠκύρριζα (glukúrrhiza), later reanalyzed as the root *liqu- pertaining to liquids (cfr. liqueo, liquor, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wleykʷ- (to flow, run)) + the suffix -itia.
