From Spanish macapuno, from either or both Cebuano makapuno and Tagalog makapuno.

  1. (Philippines) A coconut sport or a tree propagated from such sport; a naturally occurring mutant coconut with an abnormal development of the endocarp, prized for it's soft coconut meat.
    • 1966, The Philippine Journal of Plant Industry, volumes 31-32, page 81:
      In a report by Zuñiga, he stated that no difference in the floral and blooming behaviour existed between macapuno-bearing trees and the ordinary Laguna variety.
