Old Irish edit

Noun edit

maicc coím

  1. inflection of macc coím:
    1. vocative/genitive singular
    2. nominative plural

Usage notes edit

The expected form is *maicc choím with lenition of the adjective. It is uncertain whether the lenition was pronounced but simply left unwritten in the manuscript where this form appears, or whether lenition was truly absent, either due to delenition at the contact of two velars (i.e. /k x//k k/) or due to incipient univerbation of the term, which had become a compound maccoím in Middle Irish.
