editFrom Proto-Balto-Slavic [Term?] (whence also Latvian mirst, aizmirst, piemirst), from Proto-Indo-European *mer-s- (“to forget, neglect; to confuse, trouble”). Cognate with Sanskrit मृष् (mṛṣ, “to forget, neglect; to disregard”); see there for more cognates.[1]
