Etymology edit

From Arabic بَاذِنْجَان (bāḏinjān) reshaped under the influence of mela (apple). (melingian > meligniana > mulignana) Compare Greek μελιτζάνα (melitzána), Sicilian milinciana and Medieval Latin mēlongēna.
