Albanian edit

Etymology edit

From archaic *ndërtokë (underground), the first part ndër- (under) from *n̥dʰér and the second part tokë (land, ground), with an original meaning of "to lay foundations". Orel suggests a contraction of Romance *directare, but semantic problems and the prefix ndër- makes the theory unlikely. Matzinger claims it has no known etymology[1]

Verb edit

ndërtoj (aorist ndërtova, participle ndërtuar)

  1. to build
