1. (zoology) A member of the clade Neoteleostei of bony fish.
   • 1996, Antony S. Harold, “Interrelationships of Stomiiform Fishes”, in Melanie L.J. Stiassny, editor, Interrelationships of Fishes, page 333:

     Rosen (1973) separated the stomiiforms (= Stomiatoidei) from other protacanthopterygian groups, placing them as the sister-group of all other neoteleosts (Eurypterygii).
