Etymology edit

From Proto-West Germanic *obarfallan, *ubirfallan, from Proto-Germanic *ubirfallaną; equivalent to ofer- +‎ feallan. Cognate with Old Dutch overfallan, ovirfallon (to attack; assault), German überfallen (to assault, attack, raid), Swedish överfalla (to attack).
