oleellisesti
Finnish
editEtymology
editoleellinen (“essential, fundamental”) + -sti (“-ly”)
Pronunciation
edit- IPA(key): /ˈoleːlːisestiˣ/, [ˈo̞le̞ːlːiˌs̠e̞s̠ti(ʔ)]
- Rhymes: -esti
- Syllabification(key): o‧leel‧li‧ses‧ti
Adverb
editoleellisesti
- fundamentally
- Tämä ongelma on oleellisesti erilainen. ― This problem is fundamentally different.
Usage notes
editoleellisesti is often translated incorrectly as "essentially". The words "essentially" and "fundamentally" are often misleadingly listed as synonyms in dictionaries, but the use of "essentially" in the following sentence would change its meaning completely and would say the opposite, that the problem is different though it looks similar: "This problem is fundamentally different."
