From Serbo-Croatian jȍrgovān (lilac), from Ottoman Turkish ارغوان(ergavân, erguvân), from Persian ارغوان(arğawān, arğuwān, purple; Judas tree), from Middle Persian ʾlgwkʾn' (argawān, purple), ultimately from Akkadian 𒅈𒂵𒌋𒌋𒉡 / 𒋠𒍝𒆳𒋛𒀀 (argamannu, argawannu, tribute; purple (of textile)), probably via Aramaic.
