1. Any member of the clade Pennaraptora, which includes birds and some of their extinct maniraptoran relatives.

Usage notes

Although modern birds are also pennaraptorans, the term is mostly used in reference to their ancestors and relatives before the emergence of modern birds, and to the clade as a whole.
