From Late Latin pentarchia, from Ancient Greek πενταρχίᾱ (pentarkhíā), from πεντα- (penta-, penta-, five) + -αρχίᾱ (-arkhíā, -archy, rule), perhaps via Middle French pentarchie. Equivalent to pent- +‎ -archy.
