Etymology edit
Composed of pudder (“powder”) + sukker (“sugar”). Calque of German Puderzucker.
Originally referred to finely ground raw sugar, which is presumably why it is called “powdered”.
False friend of English powdered sugar and German Puderzucker, which is instead called flormelis in Danish.
