Etymology edit

Continues an umlauticized Proto-Albanian *raupā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁reyp- (to tear, to break). Cognate to Old Norse rauf (pit), Lithuanian raupiù, raũpti (to hollow out).[1] Also possibly an ultimate doublet of rrip.
