editright-away signal (plural right-away signals)
- (rail transport, UK) A signal given to a train driver by the guard of the train, or a member of station staff, that the train is ready to depart.
- 1963 October, “News and Comment”, in Modern Railways, page 228:
- Travelling porters do not ride in the trains at off-peak times, when guards supervise boarding and alighting and give the right-away signal if no station staff is available, for if only there is only one station porter on duty he may be on the opposite platform.
