rosomak

Polish edit
Etymology edit
Borrowed from Old Ruthenian росома́къ (rosomák) (whence Ukrainian росома́к (rosomák)) or from Russian росома́ха (rosomáxa). Further etymology unclear. Per Trubachev, possibly a taboo metathesis from соромаха, still present in some Ukrainian dialects, from hypothetical Proto-Slavic form *sormaxa, therefore cognate with Proto-Germanic *harmô, Latvian sermulis and Lithuanian šarmuõ, šermuõ.
