Etymology edit
From rrenë, with -g enlargement. Alternatively related to vrangull, literally 'to put in the middle of a circle', 'to be at the centre of everybody's scorn'. Similar sense development in Italian prendere in giro ("to scorn, pull someone's leg"), literally 'to take someone for a ride, spin around'.
