Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سایه‌سنده (sâyesinde). By surface analysis, saye (shadow; fig. protection, aid) +‎ -(s)i (possessive suffix with "s" as buffer consonant) +‎ -(n)de (locative suffix), literally in the shadow of (him/her/it).
