Etymology

From late Middle High German schatic. Equivalent to Schatte (“shadow”) +‎ -ig. Cognate with German schattig; compare Saterland Frisian skaadich, English shady. Sound change from [t] ⟨t⟩ to [pm] ⟨tm⟩ is regular.
