Etymology edit

From Late Latin scrōfulae, derived from scrōfa (sow, female pig) as a semantic calque of Ancient Greek χοιράδες (khoirádes), derived from χοῖρος (khoîros, young pig), because the scars associated with the pathology were deemed reminiscent of a pathology found in pigs.
