Orthographic borrowing from French semaine, from Late Latin septimāna, from Latin septimānus (“of or pertaining to the seventh in a series”). Compare Spanish semana, Italian settimana, Romanian săptămână, as well as Moroccan Arabic سيمانة‎ (simāna).
