Etymology

edit

From skära +‎ sax. Probably because its shape is similar to the scissors popular in old time, when scissors were made of one single piece metal without the pin (although the glass tool is never sharp enough to be considered as scissors).

Noun

edit

skärsax c

  1. (glassblowing) a tool used in manual production of glass objects (like bottles or wine glasses). Usually is always kept smeared with carnauba wax.
