Etymology edit
From Old Norse steypa, from Proto-Germanic *staupijaną (“to pour, soak”). Cognate with Faroese stoypa, Icelandic støypa, Swedish stöpa (“to pour (a wax candle)”) and Danish støbe (> Norwegian Bokmål støpe).
