Etymology

edit

Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *subvolvere, from Latin volvere (it is uncertain if the root is the same as the attested Latin verb subvolvere, present infinitive of subvolvō (roll up, along, or uphill), given the difference in meanings, or if it was simply a later construction); alternatively, from Romanian învoalbe with a change in prefix.
