Cognate with Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬱𐬙𐬀 (tašta, bowl), Manichaean Parthian tʾst (tāst, cup), Northern Kurdish teşt, Pashto طشت (tašt). Ultimately from the past participle of the Proto-Iranian *taš- (to make, construct; to cut, verb), from Proto-Indo-European *tetḱ-.
