tailgut (plural tailguts)

  1. (music, lutherie) A cord which loops through the tailpiece and around the endpin of stringed musical instruments, and which is held at tension by a knot to secure the tailpiece to the body, traditionally made only of gut but now also made of nylon, wire and other synthetic materials.
  2. (anatomy) The portion of the gut beyond the anus.
