edit

teiú m (plural teiús)

  1. (Brazil) tegu (any lizard in the genera Tupinambis or Salvator)
    Synonym: jacuraru
    • 1913, José de Alencar, “O combate nupcial”, in Ubirajara:
The day before, the shaman had once more burnished with the sandpaper leaf the tree trunk, and had rubbed it with tegu fat, so that it would slip from the warrior's hand as a lizard slips from the hunter's hand.
