From Proto-Brythonic *trex (stronger) (compare Cornish trygh (victorious), Middle Welsh trech (stronger), from Proto-Celtic *trexsos, comparative of Proto-Celtic *trexsnos (strong) (compare Old Irish trén (strong), comparative tressa, tressiu; from Proto-Indo-European *(s)treg- (to be stiff, rigid, strong) (Old Norse þróttr (strength)).
