  1. Any enzyme that catalyzes the breakdown of a trihexoside, and often, more specifically, alpha-galactosidase (ceramide trihexosidase), a deficiency of which allows globotriaosylceramide (ceramide trihexoside) to accumulate in the tissues of people with Fabry disease.
