From Spanish vacas (“cows”), from Latin vacca. Compare Classical Nahuatl huācax (“cow”), and other Mesoamerican languages: Yucatec Maya, Tzeltal, Chol, and Ch'orti' wakax; and K'iche' wakäx (“cow”).
