Etymology edit

From earlier ciprer, a back-formation from ciprés which was reinterpreted as a plural form (i.e. ciprers). From Late Latin cypressus, from earlier cupressus, a borrowing of Ancient Greek κῠπᾰ́ρῐσσος (kupárissos).
