From Proto-Albanian *džernja, based on a less frequent form zie, from Proto-Albanian *džera, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰér-e-ti, thematic root present of *gʷʰer-. Cognate to Ancient Greek θέρομαι (théromai, to become hot, to warm, to burn), Old Irish fogeir ((he) warms). See also ζέω (zéō, to boil). [1]
