editPresent participle of the middle disposition of Hellenistic Koine Greek καθομιλοῦμαι (kathomiloûmai, “I am used, usual”) sc. language. From καθομιλέω / καθομιλῶ (“win the favour”) < καθ' + ὁμιλώ. As a linguistic term, probably a semantic loan from French langue commune.[1]
