Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yaka (collar, edge); cognate with Azerbaijani yaxa, Bashkir яға (yağa), Chuvash ҫуха (śuh̬a), Kazakh жаға (jağa), Kyrgyz жака (jaka), Uyghur ياقا (yaqa), Uzbek yoqa and Yakut саҕа (sağa).
