Inherited from Sanskrit খাদতি (khādati). Cognate with Kamta kha, Sylheti ꠈꠣꠃꠣ (xáua), Bengali খাওয়া (khawa), Hindustani खाना (khānā) / کھانا (khānā), Nepali खानु (khānu).
