Etymology edit

Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *il. Cognate with Tamil இல் (il, “house”), Malayalam ഇല്ലം (illaṁ, “house, place”), Kodava ಇಲ್ಲವೇನ್ (illavēn, “man who is a relative”), Tulu ಇಲ್ಲ್ (illŭ, “house, dwelling, family”), Kolami ఎల్ల (ella, “house”). False cognate of Greenlandic illu.
