Compare Old Chinese (OC *kuːɡ) or Middle Chinese (MC kowk). Cognate with Lao ຄຸກ (khuk), Tai Dam ꪅꪴꪀ, Khmer គុក (kuk). Possibly doublet of คอก (kɔ̂ɔk).
