From Proto-Tai *lɤmꟲ. Cognate with Lao ລົ້ມ (lom), ᦟᦳᧄᧉ (lum²), Shan လူမ်ႉ (lṵ̂um), Phake လုံ (luṃ), Ahom 𑜎𑜤𑜪 (luṃ), Zhuang laemx, Nong Zhuang laemx, Zuojiang Zhuang loemx. Possibly related to ล่ม (lôm).
