კამათი

Georgian edit

Etymology edit

A word unattested on its own in Middle or Old Georgian. Sulkhan-Saba mentions კამათ-ობა (ḳamat-oba) in his dictionary, so it can be assumed, that the root is attested since later part of Middle Georgian.

Comparison with კამათელი (ḳamateli, dice) is doubtful. But compare the sense development in Old Armenian վէգ (vēg, dispute, argument; knucklebone used like dice in a game)

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /kʼamatʰi/
  • Hyphenation: კა‧მა‧თი
