Noun edit

Gerundium n (strong, genitive Gerundiums, plural Gerundien or Gerundia)

  1. gerund
    Synonym: (rare) Vertretungswort

Usage notes edit

  • In German grammar there is usually no strict distinction between Infinitiv and Gerundium, the latter term being fairly seldom used. The German gerund is often considered a nominalised use of the infinitive. This tendency is also seen with regard to other languages, though not those where a clear formal distinction between both forms exists (like English or Latin).

Declension edit

  • In old sources declined like the Latin etymon.
