Usage notes edit
In the German police, the full title is either Polizeikommissar or Kriminalkommissar. Equal-ranking public servants in the administration holds the title of Regierungsinspektor. In terms of hierarchy, a Kommissar is comparable to a Leutnant (“lieutenant”) or Leutnant zur See (“ensign”).
