"Offensive" edit
Would like to see some strong sources for this claim. The word doesn't sound inherently derogatory, but neutral. Equinox ◑ 17:40, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
- The "-ism" makes it seem pejorative to at least some of the people who it's used in describing, who usually don't use it. Many clinical works also use it when treating transgender people as objects of study, which might merit a label. (GLAAD, cited in the usage note, seems to be describing non-clinical use.) Sense 2 acquires additional pejorativeness from its meaning, but that meaning needs durably archived citations. I suspect it might be better to leave this in some (trimmed-down) usage notes and not in a context label. Compare transgenderist (and its talk page) and homosexualist (labelled as sometimes pejorative), vs homosexualism (no label). The neutral word seems to be "transgenderness" or "[state of] being transgender". - -sche (discuss) 16:59, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
