Etymology edit

From Middle High German undanc, from Old High German undank, undanc (unthankfulness), from Proto-West Germanic *unþank, from Proto-Germanic *unþankaz, equivalent to un- +‎ Dank. Cognate with Dutch ondank, Old English unþanc ("unfavour, unpleasure, anger, ill-will"; whence modern English unthank).
