Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Vahag (talk) 16:59, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

կարօտ edit

I have reverted your edits to this page, because Armenian կ- (k-) is not compatible with Balto-Slavic k-. What source did you use? --Vahag (talk) 15:59, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Mr. Petrosyan! I do not remember the source, but your argument is obviously valid enough for me to not bring up the claim again. Thank you for showing me how to use Wiktionary! :) --AntiPakhlava (talk) 08:13, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

պեսո edit

Wouldn't the traditional orthography form be պէսօ (pēsō) rather than պեսօ (pesō). There are attestations for բէսօ (bēsō): [1] and [2], but not for *բեսօ (*besō). --Vahag (talk) 00:29, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mr. Petrosyan, I am always a little skeptical about randomly (and perhaps, senselessly) inserting the letter է into Western words. However, your attestations obviously put an exception to this rule. Thank you for pointing it out, and have a great day. --AntiPakhlava (talk) 01:23, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Please, call me Vahag. I understand the rule on how to write internal [ɛ] in modern borrowings is not settled in traditional orthography. In such cases I propose not to add the traditional orthography form unless it is attested. I use Google Books to find the attestations. There are no attestations for պէսօ or պեսօ. I would like to remove it. Do you agree? The Western Armenian forms can stay, as they are attested. Vahag (talk) 01:47, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely, Vahag; I wish that my assertions could be as scientific and compelling as yours. AntiPakhlava (talk) 02:49, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
