Etymology edit

Inherited from Old French coillir, formed analogically, with the verbal suffix -ir, from cueil, stressed conjugated form of the original cueudre, cueildre, cueldre, from Latin colligere (collect), from con- (with, together) + legō (bring together, gather, collect). Doublet of colliger.
