From Middle Dutch mimeren, from Old Dutch *mīmrōn, from Proto-Germanic *mīmrōną (to think, have in mind, care for), from Proto-Indo-European *mer-, *smer- (to fall into thought, remember, care for). Cognate with Old English mimorian (to remember, keep in mind). More at remember.
